Medicaid
Requirements for Eligibility
While DAA does not offer assistance in applying for Medicare or Medicaid, below is some additional information regarding Medicare and Medicaid.
In California, the Medicaid program is known as Medi-Cal. This is a program that assists low income families and individuals as well as seniors, people with disabilities, foster care, and pregnant women with medically necessary procedures, treatment and services.
To be eligible for Medicaid services you must meet the following requirements:
- Live in California
- Be in the U.S. legally or be a citizen
- Meet the income requirements as well as the age requirements for the particular California Medicaid Programs
- In some cases, you must meet medical criteria
Medicaid is generally reserved for low-income families that are living below or just above the state poverty level. As such, you may be required to verify your income, as well as any health issues you may have (pregnant women applying for Medicaid must have their pregnancy verified by a doctor). If at some point in the future your income goes up, you may lose your Medicaid benefits.
